Black and white ultrasound, also known as two-dimensional grey-scale ultrasound (ultrasound), is a technique that uses the principle of ultrasound reflection for imaging. The basic principle is:

An ultrasound probe emits high-frequency sound waves into the body, which produce echoes when they encounter tissue interfaces of different densities.
The transducer receives these echoes and converts them into an image by a computer.
The image is displayed as a black and white grey scale, where black usually represents areas with no or weak echoes (e.g. liquid or air) and white represents areas with strong echoes (e.g. bone or dense tissue).
